Today, we’re excited to launch barcode scanning in Local Line — a simple, time-saving feature designed to make logging in-person orders faster and easier than ever. From farmers' markets to pop-up events and in-store — simply scan your barcodes and keep sales moving.

What is Barcode Scanning?

Our new barcode scanning feature lets you quickly add products when logging orders in Local Line. Instead of manually searching for items in the system, you can scan the barcode and automatically add the product to your orders, saving you valuable time during in-person checkouts.

• Ideal for in-Person sales: Perfect for farms and food hubs manually logging orders on behalf of customers or selling in-person at farmers' markets, farm gates, pop-up events, or in-store.
• Faster order logging: No more scrolling or clicking to find products. Just scan and go.
• Package-level support: Barcode scanning works at the package level, giving you precise control over product variants.
• Available on all plans: This feature is included with every Local Line subscription at no extra cost.

How Does It Work?

Getting started with barcode scanning is simple:

1. Add Barcode Numbers as Package Codes: Enter the barcode number under the "Package Code" field in Local Line. This allows the system to recognize which product to add to an order when you scan it.

   If you need support creating barcodes, you also download the Product Barcode PDF export in your products table. It will generate custom barcodes for all your packages.

2. Connect Your Scanner: Plug in your barcode scanner to your device. Local Line supports all barcode scanners (bluetooth or wired).

3. Start Scanning: On the Log Order screen, click the Scan Barcodes button. When the button turns green and says " Scanning..." you're ready to go. To stop scanning, click the button again or click elsewhere on the screen.
